This morning I woke up feeling fluffy inside and out. The soft pillow against my cheek, the aftereffects of a generous helping of vino. My nose was the first thing to spring into action. The faint smell of coffee drifting in from somewhere carried promise. I sat up in bed, slowly to not upset the cotton filling my head. I carefully made my way over to the blinds, took a deep breath and threw them wide open. Light flooded the orange walls, danced over the painted flowers. Taking in the jubilantly blue sky, the clouds around my temples seemed to begin to clear. |
I turned the shower to scalding heat and simply stood there, feeling my body finally shake off the last bits of fuzziness. I didn’t bother putting on a gown. Outside the window I could see nothing but blue, and the anonymity of a tourist shrouded me. I fixed my hair, brushed my teeth, secure in the knowledge that even if someone caught a glimpse of me, they would have no way of connecting this body to a real person. I would just be that to them, a nude study, a still image, a flash of skin. |
I laid out my clothes on the bed, shields for my trip to the source of the still-wafting smell. The blue dress it would have to be, the sky called for it. |
